Summary: On 7 Sept. 1978, on Waterloo Bridge in London in broad daylight, the exiled Bulgarian writer Georgi Markov is poisoned through a wound in his right thigh, allegedly by the tip of an umbrella - one of the most mysterious murders in the Cold War. This film documents how a successful writer in a totalitarian communist system turned into an "enemy of the state" - and paid for it with his life.

It details the historical background and traces the footsteps of one of the alleged assassins: Francesco Gullino, who was interviewed in 2012 for the film.

A brief excerpt from the film (in German language) that shows a re-enactment of the attack on Waterloo Bridge is shown below:

Vladimir Todorov, the Bulgarian intelligence chief allegedly one of the leading figures behind the murder of Georgi Markov died on 23 December 2012, without being held accountable in court for the crime.

A shortened version of the film (53 minutes) was shown on the ARTE television network (in German and French), Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at 22:10 and can be viewed here:
